The smoothie is creamy and sweet with bright little specks of orange zest in each sip, and the frothy top is a huge hit with the kids. It makes a great treat at brunch or can be served as a light refreshing dessert. I'll have to be careful how often I make this because I could have downed the entire pitcher while standing at the counter.
Orange Creamsicle Smoothie
Adapted from Giada at HomeServes 6
3 cups plain Greek yogurt
1 1/4 cups fresh squeezed orange juice
1/4 cup honey
zest from one orange
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups ice
Pour all ingredients in to a blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.
What a great idea! I love creamsicles - this is a guilt-free way to ahve one!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so good -- I have friends over for brunch the first sunday of every month so I think I will be making your smoothies very soon!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great and healthy! I could so have one of these right now! I love orange julius...
ReplyDeleteWhat is Greek yogurt? Anything else I could sub if I can't find it?
It's been a long time since I've had an Orange Julius. Your version sounds so much better! I wonder if you could use frozen OJ and skip the ice?
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! Is there a place for me to click to follow it from my blog?
ReplyDeleteThis made me think of an Orange Julius, too -- but healthier.
ReplyDeleteOrange Julius!! I'm filled with memories of the mall in the mid-80s.
ReplyDeleteI loved those things -- yes, the ones you got at the mall.
This might have to happen at our house this week. Oranges, on the list.
We made something like this recently with coconut milk since we have dairy allergys in our house. Cara told me about your blog. It looks great! We'll be back to visit often.
ReplyDeleteI love orange julius! I can't wait to try this out.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. We used to get this "orange julius shake" at Sonic of all places. They don't have them any more, which is such a bummer because they were one (if not the ONLY) great thing that Sonic had. No telling what junk was really in them, though. This sounds much better! Just last week I tried to make an orange pudding...it tasted just like a creamsicle, but the texture was funky. I'm just going to stick with your recipe. Sounds great!
ReplyDeleteTeenie Cakes: Greek yogurt is a very thick tangy yogurt that is at most grocery stores. I love to have it as a snack in the afternoon with a little honey drizzled on top. If you can't find it you can substitute with a thick unsweetened yogurt.
ReplyDeletecdr2009: hmmm...I think the only way for you to follow it from your blog is to add me to your blog list. I also have it set up where you can sign up for an email subscription so each post gets delivered to you automatically. Congrats to you and your new husband. :)
ReplyDeleteMmmmm...I cant wait to go home and make this!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I ended up figuring it out after I left you a comment. =)
